Lottery number generator
The lottery number generator draws five white balls from 1 to 69 and a Powerball from 1 to 26 for each line, the way the two drums do.

How the Random Number Generator works
A Powerball line is five different white balls from 1 to 69 and one red Powerball from 1 to 26. The red ball comes from its own drum, so it can match one of the white numbers. The order of the white balls does not matter, which is why a ticket prints them in ascending order.
The number of possible lines is C(69, 5) × 26, where C(69, 5) = (69 × 68 × 67 × 66 × 65) ÷ (5 × 4 × 3 × 2 × 1) = 11,238,513. Times 26 that is 292,201,338, so one line has a 1 in 292,201,338 chance of the jackpot. Mega Millions draws five of 70 and a Mega Ball of 24, which it has used since April 2025: C(70, 5) × 24 = 12,103,014 × 24 = 290,472,336.
Every line is equally likely. A generated line wins exactly as often as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 with a Powerball of 6, and as often as a line picked from birthdays. Lines add their chances: five different lines are 5 in 292,201,338, or 1 in 58,440,268.
What a choice can change is how many people share a prize. A jackpot is split between every ticket that matches it, and dates can only use 1 to 31, so a line built from birthdays shares its numbers with more tickets than a random line spread across 1 to 69.
Random Number Generator FAQ
How do I pick Powerball numbers?
Choose five different numbers from 1 to 69 and one Powerball from 1 to 26. As a Powerball number generator, this draws both from separate drums with no repeat among the white balls.
Are random lottery numbers better than my own?
They have the same odds: every line is 1 in 292,201,338 for the Powerball jackpot. A random line only lowers the chance of sharing a win with players who chose the same pattern.
How does the Mega Millions number generator work?
It draws five different white balls from 1 to 70 and one Mega Ball from 1 to 24, which gives 290,472,336 possible lines.
What are the odds of the smaller prizes?
They depend on how many white balls match and whether the bonus ball does. The lottery odds calculator gives every prize tier for both games.
