Cm to meters (cm to m)

One centimeter is exactly 0.01 meters. That is the meaning of the metric prefixes, not a measurement: milli is a thousandth, centi a hundredth and kilo a thousand, so every conversion inside the metric system is a power of ten and nothing has to be looked up.

Worked through: 100 cm x 0.01 = 1 m.

Going the other way, one meter is 100 centimeters.

To convert without a calculator, multiply by 0.01. Rounding that to 0.01 is within 0% for most purposes.

Another decimal shift within metric. Divide by 100. It is searched mostly in the context of heights and room dimensions, where the measurement arrives in centimeters and the calculation wants meters. Floor area and BMI both need the meter form.

Precision is worth matching to the input. A measurement given as 1 cm carries one or two significant figures, and reporting its conversion to six implies a precision the original never had.
