Business days calculator
From Monday, November 2 to Thursday, December 31, 2026 the business days calculator counts 44 business days, both ends included. Take off the three US federal holidays in that span and it is 41.

- The day count is exclusive of the start date and inclusive of the end: from the 1st to the 2nd is one day. The business-day count includes both ends, which is the convention for 'how many working days is this project'.
How the Date Calculator works
A business day is a weekday, Monday to Friday. To calculate business days between two dates, count all the days and take the weekends out. From Monday, November 2 to Thursday, December 31, 2026 is 60 days counting both ends. That is 8 full weeks, which hold 40 weekdays, plus the four days from Monday, December 28 to Thursday, December 31, all of them weekdays: 44 business days, with 16 weekend days left out.
Business days and working days are the same count in this calculator. Some contracts draw a line between them, using working day for a day a particular office is open, but for counting purposes both mean weekdays less holidays.
Both ends count. That is the convention for "how many working days does this project have": start on a Monday and finish on the Friday and you have worked five days, not four. A plain day count works the other way, leaving out the start date, which is why the calendar figure here is 59 days rather than the 60 used above.
Holidays are where business-day counts go wrong, and this calculator does not deduct them, because there is no single list. In the US the federal holidays in this range are Veterans Day (Wednesday, November 11), Thanksgiving (Thursday, November 26) and Christmas Day (Friday, December 25). Take those off and it is 41. Many employers also close on the Friday after Thanksgiving, which makes 40. In England and Wales the span holds Christmas Day and Boxing Day, and because Boxing Day falls on a Saturday in 2026 the substitute holiday is Monday, December 28, so the count there is 42. Only deduct a holiday that lands on a weekday; one on a weekend is already out.
To check a count by hand, take the full weeks and multiply by five, then walk through the leftover days one at a time. There is a shortcut formula built on the weekday numbers of the two dates, but it is easy to get wrong for one start day in seven, which is why the calculator walks the remainder instead.
Deadlines are the other common use, and they run the opposite way: not how many business days lie between two dates, but which date is a given number of business days away. Phrases like "within 10 business days" are usually counted from the next business day after the event. Switch the mode to "Add an interval to a date", put the number in Days and leave the box ticked; day 1 is the next business day, and weekends are stepped over. Holidays still are not, so push the date one business day later for each holiday in the way.
A whole year is a useful reference. 2026 has 261 weekdays, because it starts on a Thursday and has one day beyond 52 full weeks. All eleven US federal holidays fall on weekdays or are observed on one that year, so a US federal calendar has 250 working days.
Two smaller traps. A range that starts or ends on a weekend still counts only the weekdays: Saturday to the following Friday is 7 days and 5 business days. And a deadline set by someone in another country may run on their holidays rather than yours, so ask whose calendar it is.
Date Calculator FAQ
How many business days are there between two dates?
Count every day including both ends, then take out the Saturdays and Sundays. From November 2 to December 31, 2026 is 60 days, 16 of them weekend days, leaving 44 business days. Public holidays come off separately.
Are business days the same as working days?
For counting, yes: both mean Monday to Friday, less any holidays you observe. A contract may define working days as the days a specific business is open, in which case its own definition wins.
Does the business day count include the start date?
Here it includes both the start and the end date, which is the usual convention for how many working days a project or period has. For a deadline counted forward, use the add mode, where day 1 is the next business day after the start.
How many working days are in 2026?
261 weekdays. Taking off the eleven US federal holidays, all observed on weekdays in 2026, leaves 250. Other countries, states and employers observe different holidays, so subtract your own list from 261.
