Days Since Calculator

As of October 26, 2026 it has been 2,490 days since January 1, 2020: 6 years, 9 months and 25 days, or 355 weeks and 5 days. The days since calculator counts from any past date to any later one.

Skips Saturdays and Sundays, both when counting between two dates and when adding days. Holidays are not handled, because they differ by country and employer.

  • Every date is handled in UTC, so the answer does not depend on where the server or the reader is. A local-time implementation gives a different result either side of midnight.
  • The day count is exclusive of the start date and inclusive of the end: from the 1st to the 2nd is one day. The business-day count includes both ends, which is the convention for 'how many working days is this project'.

How the Date Calculator works

Days since a date is a subtraction with one moving part: the end date. A count of days since January 1, 2020 is 2,490 on October 26, 2026, 2,491 the next day, and so on. The dates on this calculator are fixed, so the answer stays reproducible; to count to today, change the second date to today's date.

The count leaves out the start day and includes the end day. That is the convention every date library uses, and it means a thing that happened yesterday was 1 day ago. Counting the start day as day 1 as well, as a streak counter does, gives one more: 2,491 here.

Long spans carry leap days, which is where hand counts go wrong. From January 1, 2020 to October 26, 2026 there are two, February 29, 2020 and February 29, 2024. Multiplying 6 years by 365 and adding the days since the last January 1 would miss both of them.

The same span in calendar units is 6 years, 9 months and 25 days, counted forward from January 1, 2020 by whole years, then whole months, then leftover days. In weeks it is 355 weeks and 5 days, in hours 59,760. Of the days counting both ends, 1,779 are weekdays and 712 fall on weekends.

Milestones are the reverse question: not how many days since a date, but on which date a round number arrives. 1,000 days after January 1, 2020 was Tuesday, September 27, 2022, and 2,500 days falls on Thursday, November 5, 2026. Switch the mode to adding an interval, enter the number of days, and the calculator gives the date.

A days ago calculator works the same way backwards. Subtracting 2,490 days from October 26, 2026 lands on Wednesday, January 1, 2020, which is a way to check a count: going forward and then back by the same number has to return the date you started from.

Every date here is handled in UTC, so the count does not change depending on the time zone it is read in. An event late in the evening in one zone can fall on the next date in another, and the date written down is the one to enter.

Date Calculator FAQ

How many days has it been since January 1, 2020?

2,490 days as of October 26, 2026, which is 6 years, 9 months and 25 days. Each day after that adds one. Set the second date to today's date for the count now.

Does the days since count include today?

The standard count includes the end date and leaves out the start, so something that happened yesterday was 1 day ago. To count the start day as day 1 as well, add one.

How do I find the date a number of days ago?

Subtract the days from today's date. 2,490 days before October 26, 2026 is January 1, 2020. On this calculator, choose the subtract mode and enter the number in Days.

Why does my hand count differ by a day or two?

Usually leap days or the start date. A span from January 1, 2020 to October 26, 2026 holds two February 29ths, and counting the first day as well adds one more.
